Tiffany and Steven discuss the future of Ava the Elephant

Tiffany Krumins and Steven Julian

TIFFANY KRUMINS

Tiffany Krumins, the first Shark Tank winner, is an Atlanta native and the inventor of Ava the Elephant, a child friendly dispenser that takes the fear out of taking medicine. Called a modern day Mary Poppins, Tiffany has gone from nanny to entrepreneur, and has seen her passion to help children grow into a business that is now known and loved all over the world.

Tiffany’s success story began when she was a nanny to a little boy with Down’s syndrome who was terrified of “medicine time”. To help alleviate his fear, she constructed an animal made of fabric, sponges, a store bought medicine dropper, and a recordable sound chip from a greeting card – and Ava the Elephant was born. Knowing that she would need to find a way to produce her invention, Tiffany began searching the internet and found a casting call on Craigslist that said: “Do you have the next million dollar idea but don’t have the funding to make it happen?” She immediately applied for the casting and was invited to be on the first ever episode of Shark Tank.

Her story has been a roller coaster ride as she went from being on a national TV show and receiving $50,000 to start her company, to learning just months later that she had thyroid cancer. While working from a hospital bed, she struggled through the growing pains of building a business and fighting cancer.

Tiffany’s appearance on Shark Tank and the success following continues to provide countless opportunities for her and her brand. Her story has received unparalleled exposure. Some of her more notable appearances and acknowledgements:

  • Follow-up appearances on Shark Tank on four separate occasions
  • Sharing her story and her product on the Dr. Oz Show to a national audience of millions of viewers
  • Nominated for the Top 50 Mompreneurs by Babble.com
  • Keynote speaker for Disney Social Media Mom’s
  • Her story has been featured on Forbes.com, Entrepreneur.com, TVGuide.com, YoungEntrepreneur.com, MomInventors.com and many other online and print publications

About Tiffany Krumins:

tiffany-krumins-headshot-2016Tiffany Krumins is the CEO, founder and inventor of the Ava the Elephant® brand. Ava the Elephant is a talking children’s medicine dispenser that takes the fear and anxiety out of administering medicine to children.

Tiffany’s passion for helping children has been evident through her years of experience, including the work she’s done with children who have special needs and with childhood cancer patients. It was that same passion which brought Ava the Elephant to life! She realized no product on the market resolved the common problem of giving children medicine. She took matters into her own hands and created the first Ava the Elephant from sponges, fabric and a store bought medicine dropper. After seeing the profound effect it had on children she knew she was onto something.

After her life changing experience on ABC’s “Shark Tank” she returned home with her investment from Barbara Corcoran and started the process of launching a product. In the midst of it all, Tiffany was diagnosed with cancer three months after the show (at the age of 27). This personal heartbreak only made her passion to help sick children even stronger.

Dan Williams with Sports Serve and Allen Hoskyn with FCS Ministries/Impact 46

Tiffany Krumins, Dan Williams, Allen Hoskyn, Steven Julian

Allen Hoskyn and Dan Williams work for separate organizations but have been partnering together over the past six years around community engagement and leadership development. They fundamentally believe that God is already at work in the community, people are the greatest asset within a community, and inside/local leaders are the most effective and powerful change agents. Their partnership as well as the community that has developed around Impact 46 is based on shared values and increasingly shared outcomes rather than organizational affiliation or commitments.

Dan Williams/Sports Serve

Dan is the founder of Sports Serve, a non-profit dedicated to leadership development through sport. Sports Serve impacts families and communities by developing leaders among children and youth. It also serves as a catalyst, resource and partner for other community leaders and organizations committed to community transformation. Sport is a powerful vehicle for change.

Allen Hoskyn/FCS Ministries and Impact 46

Allen currently works as a community pastor for FCS Ministries with a focus on the city of Lawrenceville. Allen is basically a missionary to the city of Lawrenceville. He is in the process of launching a new non-profit that has emerged out of the work of Impact 46.

Impact 46 began over 6 years ago as leaders from the six sectors of the community – church, nonprofit, business, government, school, and neighborhood – began to voice both a discontentment/dissatisfaction and hope for the city of Lawrenceville. Using the principles of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), community difference makers began to gather with the hopes of seeing individuals, families, neighborhoods, and the city transformed.

Jim Hollandsworth with The Path Project

Tiffany Krumins, Jim Hollandsworth, Steven Julian

Jim Hollandsworth/The Path Project

The Path Project exists to empower Latino children growing up in at-risk mobile home park communities to find the path to graduation and a plan for their future. They do this by partnering with mobile home park owners, local schools, churches and businesses. Their model is to open a community center inside the mobile home park so all the kids in the community can walk there. They have a paid teacher who runs after-school homework, literacy and mentoring programs – all with the goal of helping the kids stay on track academically and graduate high school. The graduation rate for Latino students in GA is around 60% and it’s even lower for kids growing up in mobile home parks. They currently operate in seven (7) mobile home communities – 6 in Atlanta and 1 in Nashville, TN. Their vision is to scale their model to dozens of mobile home parks across the Southeast and see thousands of kids graduate high school and pursue their dreams!

Sandra Charbonneau with SanRe Organic Skinfood

Sandra Charbonneau/SanRe Organic Skinfood

SanRe is a mother and daughter, family conceived and owned company. Treating their customers as extended family, they take great pride in producing only truly organic skinfood for all. They grew up in Europe, using many natural, herbal lotions and remedies. In the United States, they gained further skin and health experience as each an esthetician, hygienist and herbalists. Faced with the lined desires of their own aging skin, as well as evolving knowledge of the toxins within many modern skin care products, they envisioned a new path: SanRe Organic Skinfood!

We’ve all heard, “you are what you eat.” Well their motto is expanded to include, “you are what you absorb, apply and beautify yourself with.” One doesn’t refrain from eating toxins, only to place them upon their skin, which is the largest organ of the body. Hence began their mission, to produce and supply truly organic skinfood for everyone’s health and beauty. SanRe obtains all possible ingredients from USDA certified organic farmers and companies. Each product is “personally” crafted, tested, improved, finalized and produced by SanRe. They make each product only in small batches to ensure utmost quality and freshness.

Barbara Corcoran from ABC’s Shark Tank

Entrepreneurs, business managers and salespeople alike benefit from lessons on how to get people moving on the path to greatness. Barbara Corcoran built The Corcoran Group, New York’s largest real estate company, and is a Shark on ABC’s hit reality show Shark Tank. Barbara is an expert in the art of leading a team to success and in how to build a successful business.

This big bucks self-starter’s credentials include straight D’s in high school and college and 20 jobs by the time she’d turned 23. Don’t believe us?Now what would you say if we told you it was Barbara Corcoran’s next job that would make her one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country, when she borrowed $1,000 from her boyfriend and quit her job as a waitress to start a tiny real estate company in New York City?

Over the next 25 years, she’d parlay that $1,000 loan into a five-billion-dollar real estate business and the largest and best known brand in the industry.

“If I could set a world record, it would be that I have 150 business partners, all with thriving businesses of their own that started with nothing and I made the difference to make them all billionaires.”

As a speaker, Barbara brings her front-lines experience and infectious energy to each person in the audience. They laugh, cry and learn how to become more successful. Motivational, inspirational and sometimes outrageous, Barbara Corcoran’s tell-it-like-it-is attitude is a refreshing approach to success.

The author of If You Don’t Have Big Breasts, Put Ribbons on Your Pigtails, an unlikely business book that has become a national best-seller, Barbara credits her struggles in school and her mother’s kitchen-table wisdom for her innovation and huge success in the business world. The book is a fresh, frank look at how to succeed in life and business, and is as heartwarming as it is smart and motivating.
