Jim Hollandsworth with The Path Project

Jim Hollandsworth/The Path Project

The Path Project exists to empower Latino children growing up in at-risk mobile home park communities to find the path to graduation and a plan for their future. They do this by partnering with mobile home park owners, local schools, churches and businesses. Their model is to open a community center inside the mobile home park so all the kids in the community can walk there. They have a paid teacher who runs after-school homework, literacy and mentoring programs – all with the goal of helping the kids stay on track academically and graduate high school. The graduation rate for Latino students in GA is around 60% and it’s even lower for kids growing up in mobile home parks. They currently operate in seven (7) mobile home communities – 6 in Atlanta and 1 in Nashville, TN. Their vision is to scale their model to dozens of mobile home parks across the Southeast and see thousands of kids graduate high school and pursue their dreams!

About Tiffany Krumins:

tiffany-krumins-headshot-2016Tiffany Krumins is the CEO, founder and inventor of the Ava the Elephant® brand. Ava the Elephant is a talking children’s medicine dispenser that takes the fear and anxiety out of administering medicine to children.

Tiffany’s passion for helping children has been evident through her years of experience, including the work she’s done with children who have special needs and with childhood cancer patients. It was that same passion which brought Ava the Elephant to life! She realized no product on the market resolved the common problem of giving children medicine. She took matters into her own hands and created the first Ava the Elephant from sponges, fabric and a store bought medicine dropper. After seeing the profound effect it had on children she knew she was onto something.

After her life changing experience on ABC’s “Shark Tank” she returned home with her investment from Barbara Corcoran and started the process of launching a product. In the midst of it all, Tiffany was diagnosed with cancer three months after the show (at the age of 27). This personal heartbreak only made her passion to help sick children even stronger.

TIFFANY KRUMINS

Tiffany Krumins, the first Shark Tank winner, is an Atlanta native and the inventor of Ava the Elephant, a child friendly dispenser that takes the fear out of taking medicine. Called a modern day Mary Poppins, Tiffany has gone from nanny to entrepreneur, and has seen her passion to help children grow into a business that is now known and loved all over the world.

Tiffany’s success story began when she was a nanny to a little boy with Down’s syndrome who was terrified of “medicine time”. To help alleviate his fear, she constructed an animal made of fabric, sponges, a store bought medicine dropper, and a recordable sound chip from a greeting card – and Ava the Elephant was born. Knowing that she would need to find a way to produce her invention, Tiffany began searching the internet and found a casting call on Craigslist that said: “Do you have the next million dollar idea but don’t have the funding to make it happen?” She immediately applied for the casting and was invited to be on the first ever episode of Shark Tank.

Her story has been a roller coaster ride as she went from being on a national TV show and receiving $50,000 to start her company, to learning just months later that she had thyroid cancer. While working from a hospital bed, she struggled through the growing pains of building a business and fighting cancer.

Tiffany’s appearance on Shark Tank and the success following continues to provide countless opportunities for her and her brand. Her story has received unparalleled exposure. Some of her more notable appearances and acknowledgements:

  • Follow-up appearances on Shark Tank on four separate occasions
  • Sharing her story and her product on the Dr. Oz Show to a national audience of millions of viewers
  • Nominated for the Top 50 Mompreneurs by Babble.com
  • Keynote speaker for Disney Social Media Mom’s
  • Her story has been featured on Forbes.com, Entrepreneur.com, TVGuide.com, YoungEntrepreneur.com, MomInventors.com and many other online and print publications
